    If you have access to the Internet with the recommended hardware, software and browsers, you can perform transactions under the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and wherever you are, even in overseas.

  Q2.1 How can I get connected to Cyberbanking - PDA?
    You can directly go to the website of Cyberbanking - PDA at http://www.hkbea-cyberbanking.com/pda.html, and then enter your account number and PIN.
     
  Q2.2 What PIN number should I use in using PDA?
    You should use the PIN number of Cyberbanking - Internet.
     
  Q2.3 What is the recommended hardware and software in using Cyberbanking - PDA?
    The recommended hardware are:
    - Compaq iPAQ
    - HP Jornada
    The recommended software are:
    - Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 (WinCE 3.0)
    - Microsoft Pocket Internal Explorer
    - "Microsoft High Encryption Pack (SSL 128 bits Encryption)" for Pocket PC (will be provided by BEA)
    - Security Module for WinCE 3.0 (will be provided by BEA)
     
  Q2.4 Is the mentioned PDAs using the same operation system as Personal PC?
    No, operation system of the mentioned PDAs are WinCE 3.0.
     
  Q2.5 Which browser should be used in PDA?
    Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer will be used and it is embedded in the PDA.
     
3. Functions of Cyberbanking - PDA
     
    Balance Enquiry
     
  Q3.1 How can I check my account balance by using Cyberbanking - PDA?
    There are three sub-functions in the [Account Enquiry] function, they are as follows:
    [ Account Balance ]1 : to enquire the current and the available balances of an account
    [ Account Summary ]: to enquire the current and the available balances of all accounts
    [ Account Activity ] : to enquire the current day's transactions2, a maximum of the latest 30 transactions up to the last business day, or the transaction history up to the last 12 months.
     
    Remarks:
1 You can also enquire the "Accumulated Bonus Point" of a credit card account.
2 The credit card account only provides transactions performed via Cyberbanking - Internet.
     
  Q3.2 Can I view both local currency and foreign currency in the [ Account Enquiry ] function?
    Yes, you can view both of the currencies.
     
    Funds Transfer and Bill Payment
     
  Q3.3 What can I do in the [ Funds Transfer ] function?
    You can transfer funds from your accounts to accounts within our bank with or without prior registration.
     
  Q3.4 What can I do in the [CyberPayment], [Bill Payment] and [JET Payment] function?
    You can pay your bills with a number of specified merchants without prior registration.
     
  Q3.5 Are [CyberPayment], [Bill Payment] and [JET Payment] provided 24-hour service?
    Yes, it is. However, [Bill Payment] transaction will be valued on next working day if the transaction is completed after 16:00 from Mondays to Fridays, after 11:00 on Saturdays or on Sundays/Public Holiday.
     
  Q3.6 Can I pay a bill in [CyberPayment], [Bill Payment] and [JET Payment] by Credit Card?
    Yes, you can. The bank will levy cash advance handling fee and finance charges on the use of credit card account as withdrawal account since such transactions are by nature genuine cash advances out of the credit card account.

    You can view the following financial information:

  Q3.8 What should I do if I want to exit Cyberbanking - PDA?
    You can simply click the [Main Menu] and click [Logout].
     
    Change PIN
     
  Q3.9 How can I change my PIN for Cyberbanking - PDA?
    You can change your PIN anytime by clicking the [Change PIN] button on the Main Menu.
     
  Q3.10 Can I change PINs of other electronic channels through Cyberbanking - PDA?
    There are 3 main groups of electronic channels as follows:
    Group1: Internet, PDA, Kiosk and PowerPhoneTM
    Group2: Phone
    Group3: Mobile Phone
    When changing PIN through PDA, only those within the same group will be affected. Other groups will remain unchanged.
     
4. Security Precautions

  Q4.1 How do I login to the Cyberbanking website safely?
    You can safely login to Cyberbanking by entering the homepage of The Bank of East Asia, Limited "www.hkbea.com" or the homepage of Cyberbanking "www.hkbea-cyberbanking.com" into your browser, or bookmark these authentic websites for future use. Never use website addresses or links attached in any email or found through Internet search engines to login to Cyberbanking.
     
  Q4.2 What are the current security measures of the Cyberbanking - Internet channel?
   
Cyberbanking - Internet provides the following security measures to safeguard your use of the services:
   
1. Personal Identification Number (PIN) and Digital Certificate
  You can login to Cyberbanking by using your Cyberbanking account number and PIN or even a designated digital certificate issued by Hongkong Post or Digi-Sign Certification Services Limited.
   
2. Last Login Time
  You can view your last login time after successfully logging into Cyberbanking.
   
3. Deploy Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 128-bit Encryption
  "SSL" is an international and well-proven standard encryption module developed to ensure confidentiality during data transmission. All important information transmitted between your browser and our Bank through Cyberbanking - Internet will be encrypted by 128-bit SSL.
     
  Q4.3 Are there any security tips for using Cyberbanking?
    Please go through the following security tips before using Cyberbanking :
     
    PIN Management
   
- Do not disclose your PIN to anyone including any joint account holder(s). In addition, do not send your PIN via email and never use the same PIN to access other services.
- Call our Bank immediately of any actual or suspected unauthorised use of your PIN and confirm notification to our Bank in writing.
- Do not, under any circumstances, disclose your PIN to anyone who claims to represent our Bank or who claims to be our Bank's employee or other authorised person or the Police. It is not necessary for anyone to know your PIN. Our Bank will never ask you for your PIN by email.
- Disable options on your browser to avoid storing or retaining your PIN on your personal computer.
- Change your PIN immediately when using Cyberbanking for the first time and destroy any documents containing PIN information.
- Be sure not to use your identity card number, telephone number, date of birth, driver’s license number or any popular number sequences (such as 987654 or 123456) in your PIN. Avoid using the same digit more than twice (such as 111111 or 222222).
- Do not write down your PIN - memorise it.
- Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transactions. Make sure no one sees your PIN and cover the keypad when you enter your PIN on any device,such as a personal computer, an ATM or other self-service terminal such as a kiosk.
- For security reasons, change your PIN regularly.
- Change your PIN immediately if there is any suspicion of being deceived by fake websites or email. For example, you fail to login to a service website after inputting your correct PIN, with or without any alert messages.
     
    Personal Computer and email Protection
   
- Take precautions against hackers and viruses when sending and receiving emails, opening any email attachments, visiting and disclosing personal / financial information to unknown websites, and downloading files or programmes from websites.
- Increase your protection with proper firewalls and anti-virus software and update them with security patches or newer versions on a regular basis to strengthen the security of your personal computer.
- Upgrade browsers and application software to support 128-bit SSL encryption or a higher encryption standard.
- Remove file and printer sharing options on your personal computer, especially when you have Internet access via cable modem, broadband connection, wireless connection or other similar set-up.
- Do not use software or programme(s) from untrustworthy sources.
- Do not click URLs or hyperlinks embedded in any email to access our Bank’s website.
- Limit the number of people who can use your personal computer and set your own password for your personal computer if it has this facility.
- Disable your browser’s “AutoComplete” function. On some browsers, this function remembers the data you input previously. Refer to your browser’s “Help” function if necessary.
     
    Accessing Cyberbanking
   
- Keep your Cyberbanking Account Number confidential at all times and do not send account information via email.
- Make sure that all other browsers are closed before logging into Cyberbanking.
- Input Cyberbanking or the Bank’s website address into the address bar of a web browser directly.
- Only access Cyberbanking through www.hkbea.com or www.hkbea-cyberbanking.com.
- Every time you login to Cyberbanking, please verify your last login date and time, displayed underneath “Welcome! [Your Name]” on the first page.
- Do not click a hyperlink in an email, search engine or any untrusted source to login to Cyberbanking.
- Confirm the authenticity of our Bank's website by comparing the URL and our Bank's name in its digital certificate. A security icon resembling a lock or key appears when authentication and encryption are expected.
- Always logout and then clear the browser cache after each banking session.
- Do not leave your personal computer unattended while using Cyberbanking.
- Do not use public computers to access Cyberbanking.
- Check your bank balance and transaction history regularly. Notify the Bank immediately if you discover any errors or unauthorised transactions.
- Regularly review and follow security tips issued by the Bank.
- Contact the Bank for confirmation immediately whenever a website claiming to originate from the Bank looks suspicious to you.
     
    Use of Digital Certificate
   
- Keep your Digital Certificate private key and password confidential at all times. Do not disclose the password to any person including any joint account holder(s). In addition, do not send your password via email and never the same password to access other services.
- Call our Bank immediately of any actual or suspected, unauthorised use of your Digital Certificate and confirm notification to our Bank in writing.
- Do not, under any circumstances, disclose your Digital Certificate password to anyone who claims to represent our Bank or claims to be our Bank's employee or other authorised person or the Police. It is not necessary for anyone to know your password. Our Bank will never ask for your password by email.
- Disable options on browsers to avoid storing or retaining your Digital Certificate password on your personal computer.
- Be sure not to use your identity card number, telephone number, date of birth, driver’s license number or any popular number sequence (such as 987654 or 123456) in your Digital Certificate password. Avoid using the same digit more than twice (such as 111111or 222222).
- Set a password to protect your Digital Certificate immediately after your have received your Digital Certificate.
- Do not write down your Digital Certificate password - memorise it.
- Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transaction and make sure that no one sees your Digital Certificate password and cover the keypad when you enter your password on any device, such as a personal computer or a self-service terminal such as a kiosk.
- For security reasons, change your Digital Certificate password regularly.
- Notify our Bank of any change to the information provided to a Certificate Authority (“CA”) as soon as such change occurs. Our Bank shall not in any event be held liable for any loss or damage resulting from or in connection to your failure to do so.
- Do not use your Digital Certificate after it has been cancelled or revoked, or has otherwise become invalid.
     
    Other Notes
   
- Check your bank statement(s) regularly and inform our Bank immediately if you find any suspicious or unusual transactions.
- Keep your Digital Certificate, ATM Card, bank statements, cheque books and other important documents in a safe place. If you want to discard any documents that contain your personal information, destroy them first.
- Under no circumstances shall our Bank, by way of email, ask for your personal information, such as your password, identity card number, date of birth, credit card number, credit card expiry date, etc. In addition, we will not ask you to enter our Bank’s website by clicking hyperlinks attached to any email.
- Check the website’s privacy policy statement and statement on security safeguards before providing personal data to the website.
     
     
  Q4.4 Do I need to clear browser memory cache?
    To safeguard your account information, you are advised to close all your browsers instantly after logging out of Cyberbanking to clear the browser memory cache.
     
  Q4.5 Where can I learn more about Internet banking security precautions?

  Q4.7 What browser settings do the security features of Cyberbanking - Internet require?
    You should use a browser that Cyberbanking can support (see FAQ Q4.2). In addition, "Java", "JavaScript", "SSL" and "Cookies" options must be enabled in the browser.
     
  Q4.8 How can I upgrade the version of my browser?
    If you want to upgrade the version of your browser, you may go to the corresponding download sites (Microsoft or Netscape). Alternatively, you may choose the browser you wish to upgrade (Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator) in the error page when you enter our service. After making your selection, you will be redirected to the appropriate site for downloading.
     
  Q4.9 What should I do if I want to enable the SSL feature?
     
    Enable SSL Version 2.0 and 3.0
    If you are using Netscape Communicator 4.5* :
    1. Select [Communicator]
    2. Select [Tools]
    3. Select [Security Information]
    4. Choose [Navigator]
    5. Select [Advanced Security (SSL) Configuration] and enable SSL Version 2.0 and 3.0
    6. Click [OK]
     
    If you are using Internet Explorer 4.0/5.0* :
    1. Click [View] (If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0, please click [Tools])
    2. Select [Internet Options]
    3. Select [Advanced] Tab
    4. Choose [Security] and enable SSL Version 2.0 and 3.0
    5. Click [OK]

  Q4.10 Why are previous entries displayed as a dropdown list when I enter data in some fields such as account number, PIN, transaction amount, etc.?
    Some of the latest versions of browsers have features, such as "AutoComplete" in Internet Explorer 5.0, that can save previous entries you have made for web addresses, forms, passwords, etc. Therefore, when you type similar information in one of these fields, a dropdown list with possible matches will automatically appear from which you can select.
     
    To protect yourself and to prevent unauthorised use of your account, you are advised to disable this kind of feature in your browser. You may also lock your personal computer by using power-on passwords, etc to prevent unauthorised access.
